Welcome from the Chief Information Officer

Welcome to the Chief Information Officer Web site. This Web site provides an overview of IT at UB, with links to information about IT strategic planning, key projects and initiatives, IT organizations and committees, campus IT policies, and IT resources. Our information technology resources are aligned with the University's strategic plans to achieve academic excellence.

The rapidly changing path of information technology is expanding the borders of how we learn, discover, and communicate. IT provides the advanced infrastructure to help UB improve the quality of education and research, prepare our students for work in the twenty-first century, expand its role in the community and around the world, and act as good stewards of the environment and university resources.

UB has a distributed IT environment with many campus units providing IT services and resources. The Chief Information Officer is committed to partnerships and collaborative work with IT leaders across the campus. This summer distributed and central IT leaders will work to develop an integrated IT plan for UB.

Some key links follow:

An overview of the current UB Information Technology environment provides brief descriptions of our distributed computing environment, IT advisory committees, campus network, wireless access coverage, technology classrooms, computing labs, and some current UBIT facts and figures on service usage and volume.

UB is a member of the Northeast LambdaRail (NeLR), a consortium enabling educational institutions in New York and New England to connect to and support the National LambdaRail (NLR), a national high-bandwidth research network. NLR's networking infrastructure provides scientists and scholars with new capabilities, allowing network members to exchange massive amounts of data and to remotely operate supercomputing and other resources at member institutions, greatly enhancing UB's research competitiveness and opportunities for research collaborations.

We hope you will take the time to explore what is offered here and give us your feedback on areas where we can be of greater service to the campus.

Yours Sincerely,
Elias Eldayrie
Chief Information Officer
