Google Search Engine

Project Description
The replacement of the current Ultraseek Search Engine with Google Search Appliance. The Google Search Appliance will provide a standalone index of buffalo.edu websites, and provide web search interfaces.

Ultraseek Search Engine will be removed from Wings, Central Campus Web Server. A Google Search Appliance, single standalone rack server, will be installed. The scope of this project is to test a Google Search Appliance, install a single Google Search appliance in the machine room, migrate users to the Google Search Appliance, and remove Ultraseek from Wings after migration. Both Search engines will run together during testing and migration.

The current costs of Ultraseek are increasing. The Google licensing costs are more favorable than Ultraseek. The Google interface is well known by most customers. Google is best of breed. Google is used by peers.
